Students will compete against teams across the country, while astronauts referee the final competition live from space. This six-week camp introduces students to computer programming, robotics, & space engineering. Students will use the scientific method and engineering design process to experiment and gather data on their launches. Requirements: B average in Science and Math classesĭuring this two week summer camp, middle school students will design, build and launch their rockets and high-altitude balloon sensor device at STARBASE in Los Alamitos.Scholarships: FULL scholarship for all low-income students.Age group: Currently enrolled in 5 th, 6 th or 7 th grade.Students will also explore computer science by learning to code and write apps. Subjects taught include Scratch, Python, Java, Web development, Cybersecurity, and Robotics.ĭuring the two week camp, students will explore aerospace, electrical, civil and mechanical engineering with hands-on activities such as rockets, circuits, bridges, and robots. We offer classes both in-person and virtual. They will be able to describe how a computer program is written and executed and write a computer program to solve a given problem using basic programming constructs such as variables, conditions, and loop. Activities will be led by USC Viterbi Center staff and USC students.ĭuring each class, students learn what computer science is and how it relates to real-world problems. All materials needed for the camp will be provided and mailed to students' homes prior to the start of the camp, along with a camp schedule. The camps will include demonstrations and lessons, hands-on projects and group-work, and time for connecting and sharing with peers in a fun, engaging environment. Campers experiment using a variety of engineering hardware and software through fun and hands-on activities.During the virtual camps, students will have the opportunity to explore concepts around Green Energy (elementary) and Electronics (high school). For engineering camp location please check our location page. Our engineering courses help the student develop engineering skills through hands-on activities where kids & teen can design and build engineering projects such as Arduino robots, electronics, circuits, 3D printing & modeling and robotics engineering. Vision Tech Camps offers many engineering summer courses for elementary through high school students’. Engineers can design and build robots that can help in rescue missions, automate and increase productivity in factories.Įngineering camp is an excellent introduction to the engineering profession and a great resource for a preparing for engineering careers. Early education encourages many students’ especially girls to consider engineering as career choice and value mathematics and science education in life. Research shows that when engineering education is part of elementary level education, kids are more likely to see the value of science education and feel more enthusiastic about exciting opportunities available for jobs, higher education, and entrepreneurship. Engineering requires creative thinking, engineers can design and build robots that can help in rescue missions, automate and increase productivity in factories. Why Teach Engineering to Kids?Ī career in engineering is never boring. A typical engineering degree is a 4-year bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree. Engineers design systems, material, and structures within the limitation of budget, safety, and regulations. They use their scientific knowledge to solve problems and make things work more efficiently. The field of engineering can be divided into four main branches.Īn engineer is a dreamer who invents. Engineering is very broad discipline and encompasses many fields. Engineers apply their knowledge of mathematics and science to find an innovative solution to problems. Engineering is the application of scientific and mathematical knowledge to invent, design and build systems, components and many ranges of solutions.
